This hors d'ouevre almost did not come to fruition.
JS and I have been thinking about submitting something to the Blog Party at Dispensing Happiness, but after much consideration ("We're not really hors d'ouevres people, are we?") and realistically assessing our schedules ("Do you want to do it this weekend or on a weeknight when we get home [around 10pm]?"), we decided that we wouldn't be able to come up with anything.
Then, one Sunday when we completed our Tomato dish for Wandering Chopstick's Weekend Wokking, my mother asked me to cut up a pineapple.
I saw the cut up pieces of pineapple, some leftover balsamic reduction and some basil.
Eureka!
Thus, this appetizer was born.
I put "grilled" in parenthesis because we didn't grill the pineapple this time, but in my conceptualization, they should be.
We also had to come up with an accompanying drink. What goes with pineapple?
Well, pineapple goes with pineapple, of course!
Since we have easy access to artisan gelato and sorbetto, I decided go on ahead and make a simple Pineapple Sorbetto Cooler.
Some sparkling water, some pineapple sorbetto, and voilà.
So there you go: blog party time!

I must say, my fingers smelled quite nice after making this: sweet pineapple, heady basil, tangy balsamic reduction... they should bottle this and sell it as shampoo.
We are submitting this to Blog Party #36 at Dispensing Happiness. The theme is Blogger's Choice. More info here.
This looks like a winner to me, it looks so refreshing & pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love pineapples. You know they make you smell nicer. So what'dya make for WW? I gotta post my recipe soon too.
ReplyDeleteSo exotic! Am I in Hawaii now?
ReplyDeleteYum! I adore pineapple! This looks great... I love the balsamic reduction idea as well.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous... and so damned tempting-looking, too!
ReplyDeleteI love grilled pineapples! I'm gonna give your recipe a try, and grill the pineapples of course.
ReplyDeleteI am not a pineapple eater, but this looks cool. The colour esp!
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering what to make with a pineapple I need to use, this looks perfect for a summer dessert. I love the color also.

ReplyDeleteThat looks good! I like the sound of the pineapple and balsamic flavour combination.
ReplyDeleteCan I come to your blog party? The grilled pineapple looks great but I'm really intrigued by the pineapple sorbetto cooler. I want some now!
ReplyDeleteQuestion for you? Your lighting is always lovely in the photos on your blog - white and clean. Have you blogged anything about your 'secret photography techniques' yet? Do you always use natural light, or 'studio' lighting? Whatever you're doing, you're doing it right!! Love to learn more about how you do it...
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I love the combination you've got there. Very refreshing. :-)
ReplyDeletei, for one, am super glad you found the time to do this. :) it sounds like the perfect little nosh (grilled or not), and the beverage should help combat this nasty heat quite well. :)
ReplyDeleteGosh that looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting dish and beverage! I would loovvve to try some :)
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious!

Thanks! Actually, photography is not our strongest skills. After many frustrating pictures, I've discovered that natural light is my friend. So if I really want something to turn out all right, then I have to walk over outside and take a shot. I don't know what other people do with their lighting for indoor shots, because other people seem to be able to take pictures indoors with great results!
